We learn in this Parsha that Avram is travelling to Egypt due to the drought in Eretz Israel:
“There was a famine in the Land, and Avram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the Land”.
“As he was about to enter Egypt, he said to his wife Sarai, “I know what a beautiful woman you are. If the Egyptians see you, and think, ‘She is his wife,’ they will kill me and let you live”.
Now we ask: Why did Avram think about it only now? Did he not know the facts upon setting off on his way?
The Ruzinerer Rebbe says. There is beauty, and there is real beauty. Beauty is when a person looks beautiful at home, in a pleasant atmosphere, etc. Real beauty is when a person looks beautiful under ANY circumstances. Avram said to Sarai: Now that we are wandering through the desert, under difficult circumstances, I know that yours is a real beauty.
Have a real beautiful Shabbat
