Message from Kahane Corn Cooperman and Matthew Corn (USA) to the Adass Jisroel Community, Berlin
On behalf of our parents, Dr. David and Beatrice Corn, we are honoured to present the tefillin of Rabbi Dr. Jehiel Jacob Weinberg to the Adass Jisroel community – a place so central to his life and work in Berlin. Rabbi Dr. Jehiel Jacob Weinberg was our grandmother’s brother, our father’s uncle, and our great-uncle.
In 1934, following our great-uncle’s strong advice, our grandparents, Hirsch and Henni Kornianski, emigrated to the United States with their two children, Moritz and Rudi David, in order to flee the Nazi regime. Once in the United States, the family changed their names to Herman, Anna, Milton and David Corn. Our beloved father, David, who visited Uncle “J.J.” many times after the war, sadly passed away this past December 2025. His death occurred just five days before a planned Stolpersteine ceremony in Berlin, in front of his family’s former home on Tucholsky Strasse, across the street from the Adass Jisroel congregation.
As difficult as it was to leave our mourning family, we attended the ceremony as planned, with their blessing. We also had the great pleasure of visiting with Dr. Offenberg, who was our honoured guest speaker at the ceremony. We will never forget his powerful and meaningful words. After the event, we sat together in the beautiful Beth Café, sharing our life stories and experiences, followed by a wonderful tour of the grounds of this historic congregation.
Please know that Adass Jisroel will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we very much hope to visit again in the near future. In the meantime, the next time you walk past Tucholsky Strasse 45, please look for our family’s Stolpersteine and know that the Kornianski and Corn families will forever remain part of the Jewish Community Adass Jisroel – Berlin.
